Locksmith west Philadelphia
Philadelphia, PA 19104
These guys are an old school Philadelphia business that has been around forever, and I decided to chime in with this review because of some of the negative comments here. If you are looking to have your derriere kissed upon walking in, you may be disappointed. You may have to wait a bit to get service, if they are helping other customers. They are a bit surly (maybe indifferent is a better word) but I suspect this comes with years of dealing with panicky customers who don't really treat tradespeople with the respect they deserve. On the other hand, if you need a locksmith that is really competent, with years of experience with just about any situation you can imagine, they are the best locksmiths in the city. These guys know their stuff. I brought in a key to duplicate for an old British car from the 60's and just looking at the key, they knew exactly what the car was and they had the blank (a near impossibility). If you have old door locks (and the city is full of them) they know how to take them apart and service them to get them working like new, instead of just replacing at higher cost. Note: you have to be careful when calling that you are actually getting the right "West Philadelphia Lock" because there are a bunch of locksmiths out there piggybacking on their reputation who have similar names and you have to make sure you are getting the place on "42nd street." Their experience constantly amazes me and if you treat them with a little respect, they will amaze you, too.
I have been doing business with them for a while here and there, but this time is a shock to me. Dropped off a key and cylinder to get re-pin. Its been almost a week and no call from them. First time I called the lady told me maybe Tomorrow it will be done. Few more days later (into next week) ETA? Answer was I dont know we're busy. I run a business too and I cant see someone can treat customer like they do. Everyone in there seems to be in a bad mood or something Been doing business with them for more than 7 years but never again.
I would highly recommend this business. I had an emergency yesterday whwn I locked myself out of my house. I called their shop and they told me that all over their servicemen were already on road but I would be next. I explained that I was diabetic and nweded access to my medication and was only about ten blocks away. A man named Chris said he understood and that he would figure out a solution to stay on my steps. Ten minutes later he rode up on a bicycle with tools in a backpack. He opened my door in less than five minuyes with absolutely zero damage to lock and charged me the minimum service charge, he was so friendly. I tried to give him a tip and he asked me to just pay it forward. When I asked what that meant he said if I ever had a chance to help someone else to do it, and ask them to pay it forward. What a great experience, from a terrible start.
A old guy is such a pain, I have been standing in the store for 20 mins, and only was waiting for a answer of the old guy ! End up he said I have no idea! Wthhhhhhhhhh
If you need to make a duplicate key, this is the place to go! Only waited for 3 minutes for them to make a copy of 2 brass keys. $6 total. Workers not the most friendly, but efficient and they seem to know what they're doing. Can't really speak for the rest of the services they offer here, but definitely an easy place to go if in West Philly/UCity to make a copy of a key in case you lose your original!
If I could give less than one star, I would. These people are rude, unprofessional, incompetent and they lie. I spent two mornings waiting for locksmiths who never arrived, then lied and said they were there but I wasn't, and the dispatcher told me to find another locksmith when I called to see if we could make an actual scheduled appointment. How they stay in business is beyond my comprehension.
20 minutes after I called, I was back inside my place. My locksmith was named JR and he was fantastic. Even though my lock was difficult (it contained rare hooks), he had it open in just a few minutes. I highly recommend this place for lockouts!
The people working were not friendly. I had to wait for a while to get my keys made, because the employees were having a non work related conversation. There was a woman with short hair working, yelling at the other employees. She called them scumbags. It was just very unprofessional. I will go elsewhere for future keys. Mostly because of how this lady was talking to the other people working.
I woke up on Saturday recognizing that I wanted to change the locks to my house, but somehow got caught up with the day and looked to realize that it was almost 2 pm as I ventured into the shop. The staff is friendly with a no nonsense cut to the chase edge, which is an interesting combination, that could rub some in the wrong way. It worked just fine for me. I described what I needed, was quoted a reasonable price and a ticket was quickly written up. The guy says ok and finishes the conversation to move on to his next task. I respond, "Hey, so when will you be there, I just want to make sure that I will be in the house? He pauses, says, "we close at 3 today, so we'll be there in a few minutes, are you heading there now?" I quickly get in my car and dash over to the house. The locksmith was there within 5 minutes. He then did his job really well by changing 2 sets of locks, making keys and finishing up right as the clock hit 3 pm. Now that's service. Thank you West Philadelphia locksmith!
